There may come a time when you feel that your Facebook group is no longer serving its purpose. Or you may want to close your group because of incessant advertisements appearing in the discussion forum. Rest assured, you are not the only one who has had to deal with spammers jamming up your news feed.
Here is another reason that perhaps you have seen more often than those silly click-bait articles: the hate-spewing comments. There is an important distinction to remember about comments in threads. There is a world of difference between criticizing an idea and vilifying an individual. Do not equate the former with the latter, and end up deleting your Facebook group.
Although, if you find genuine hatemongers who are reducing the quality of content in your group, you may just wish to back out. Here is a step-by-step tutorial for deleting your Facebook group.
Please Note: If you are the admin of the Group, you can delete a Group by the method given below irrespective of the fact that there are multiple admins in the Group.
Deleting the Group
Step 1. Login to Facebook
Open the page at www.facebook.com, enter your username and password and log in.
Step 2. Go to your group page
In the left panel of your Facebook homepage, you will see a section called “Groups.” Under this section, look for the name of your group and click on it.
Step 3. If your group is not in the list
If you cannot find your group listed in the “Groups” section, click on the “Groups” section title.
Step 4. Search for your group
Under the “Your Groups” tab, search for the name of your group and click on it.
Step 5. Open the “Members” tab
Once you reach your group homepage, look for the “Members” tab in the options below the cover photo and click on it.
Step 6. Delete the group’s members
Manually delete all the members of the group using the "gear" button that appears to the right of a member’s name. Click on the “gear” to display a short drop-down menu. Select "Remove from Group."
Step 7. Authenticate the removal
Click on “Confirm” in the pop-up window to authenticate the removal of the member from the group. Repeat these steps to remove all group members, until you are the last one left in the group.
Step 8. Remove yourself
Now, follow the same process to remove yourself. Click on the “gear” button and select “Leave Group” from the drop-down menu.
Step 9. Leave and delete the group
A prompt will appear warning you that your removal will cause the deletion of the group. To confirm this is your intention, click on "Leave and Delete."
Leave the Group without Deleting It
Here’s an idea. Instead of going all the way, you can follow the path of least resistance and remove yourself from the group. It will save you all the fuss of deleting each and every member and you will be free of all the irrelevant notifications in your news feed.
Step 1. Go to your group page
Go to your group page by clicking on its name in the left panel of your home page under the “Groups” section. If you don’t see your group listed, click on the “Groups” section title and look for your group name in the complete list (images are above in the tutorial).
Step 2. Open the “Members” tab
Click on the “Members” option below the cover photo to open the list of all the members of the group.
Step 3. Remove yourself from the group
The process is exactly like before. Click on the “gear” button and select “Leave Group” from the drop-down menu.
Step 4. Leave the group and give up admin rights
A pop-up window will appear asking whether you are sure about your decision and wish to renounce your admin privileges. Click on “Leave Group” to abandon this quagmire completely.
Step 5. Out of the group
Now, you are out of the group and its activities will not flood your notifications or home page again.
Step 6. Rejoining the group
If you wish to join the group again, click on the "Join Group" button.
If it was a Closed or Private group, you won’t be able to join the group again without the permission of an admin. If you were the only admin on the page, that privilege was passed on to the other members of the group when you left.
