For the skin, oatmeal has anti-inflammatory properties that soothe irritated skin. The texture also has gentle exfoliating properties that will help pores clean.

#Face Masks for Dry Skin
Method 1: Oatmeal & Milk Mask
Combining oatmeal with milk and banana can do wonders for dry skin.
Raw milk is rich in vitamin B, calcium, alpha hydroxyl acids, and other antioxidants, which deeply nourish the skin and help lock in moisture. It cleanses pores clogged with dead skin cells and oil.
It clears up acne and prevents flare-ups. It also has skin-tightening and brightening properties. Oatmeal and milk together help get rid of the dry and flaky skin.
Bananas are rich in potassium and vitamins E and C, all of which promote clear and radiant skin. It also soothes the skin.
Things you’ll need:
- Banana – ½
- Ground oatmeal – 1 tablespoon
- Milk – 1 tablespoon
Step 1. Mash half of a banana & add ground oatmeal and milk
- Using a fork, mash ½ of a banana in a bowl until you have a lump-free pulp.
- Grind some oatmeal into a fine powder. Add 1 tablespoon of it to the mashed banana.
- Add 1 tablespoon of milk to it.
- Mix the ingredients well.
Step 2. Apply it on your face & let it sit for 10 to 15 min
- Wash your face with lukewarm water and pat your skin dry. Lukewarm water opens the pores, letting the skin better absorb the nutrients in the mask.
- Apply the mask on your face using an applicator brush, and leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes.
- Rinse it off with warm water. Do not use soap.
- Splash some cold water onto your face to close the opened pores.
Use this pack once a week. This mask must be made fresh for each use.
Method 2: Oatmeal & Honey Mask
Honey acts as a natural humectant. Humectants draw moisture from the air and help retain it in the skin for deeper penetration and long-lasting hydration.
This property of honey makes it a perfect ingredient for people with dry skin. It also has an antibacterial property. The oatmeal and honey mask is beneficial for your hair and skin as well.
Milk cream is rich in fats, which helps moisturize the skin.
Things you’ll need:
- Ground oatmeal – 2 tablespoons
- Milk cream – 2 tablespoons
- Pure honey – 1 teaspoon
- Water – enough to make a paste
Step 1. Combine ground oatmeal, milk cream, water & honey. Mix well
- Put 2 tablespoons of ground oatmeal in a bowl.
- Add 2 tablespoons of milk cream.
- Add 1 teaspoon of honey as well.
- Add enough water to the mixture to make a smooth paste.
Step 2. Apply the paste to your face & leave it on for 10 to 15 min
- Wash your face with lukewarm water and pat your skin dry.
- Apply a thick coat of the paste on your face with an applicator brush, using upward strokes.
- Leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes.
- Rinse it off with warm water, followed by a splash of cold water.
Use this face pack once a week. This mask must be fresh for each use.
Method 3: Oatmeal & Cocoa Mask
Cocoa powder is known to repair skin cells. It contains omega-6 fatty acids that heal scars and wounds. It also acts as a natural sunscreen and helps promote healthy blood flow to the skin, which makes it look healthy and younger.
Coconut milk contains high levels of vitamin C, which helps maintain flexibility and elasticity of the skin. It also contains copper, which prevents sagging skin and wrinkles.
It keeps the skin supple and soft by retaining moisture in the skin, which is beneficial for dry skin. Oatmeal fights off the free radicals present in the skin and clears any clogged pores.
Things you’ll need:
- Cocoa powder – ½ tablespoon
- Honey – ½ tablespoon
- Ground oatmeal – 1 tablespoon
- Coconut milk (unsweetened) – enough to make a paste
Step 1. Combine all the ingredients and mix well
- Put 1 tablespoon of ground oatmeal in a bowl.
- Add ½ tablespoon each of cocoa powder to it and honey to the mixture.
- Pour in enough coconut milk to make a paste.
- Mix all the ingredients well.
Step 2. Apply the paste on your face & let it sit for 10 to 12 min
- Wash your face with lukewarm water and pat your skin dry.
- Apply the mask to your face and leave it on for 10 to 12 minutes.
- Rinse it off with lukewarm water, followed by a splash of cold water.
Use this pack once a week. This mask must be fresh for each use.
#Face Masks for Oily Skin
Method 1: Oatmeal & Apple Mask
Apple contains malic acid, which takes care of excess oil produced by the skin and unclogs the pores. This reduces the frequency of acne flare-ups. It also helps build collagen under the skin.
Apple has copper and malic acid, which help in the production of melanin. Melanin is responsible for the color of your skin and helps protect our skin from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays.
Apples also have retinoids, in small amounts, which are skin-brightening agents.
Oatmeal has antioxidants that keep skin firm and clear. The honey in the recipe also benefits the oily and acne-prone skin. It moisturizes the skin without making it look oily.
Things you’ll need:
- Ground oatmeal – 2 tablespoons
- Honey – 1 tablespoon
- Apple puree – 2 tablespoons
- Rosewater – enough to make a paste
Step 1. Combine all the ingredients and mix well
- Put 2 tablespoons of ground oatmeal in a bowl.
- Puree enough of an apple to get 2 tablespoons and add it to the mix.
- Add 1 tablespoon of honey and enough rose water to make a paste.
- Mix everything well.
Step 2. Apply the mask on your face & let it sit for 15 min
- Wash your face with lukewarm water and pat your skin dry.
- Apply the paste to your face and neck.
- Let it sit for 15 minutes.
- Rinse the mask off with lukewarm water, followed by a splash of cold water to close all the open pores.
Use this face mask once a week for oily and sensitive skin. This mask must be made fresh for each use.
Method 2: Oatmeal & Orange Mask
Fruits like orange and lemon are citric in nature and contain high levels of vitamin C. It acts as a natural brightening agent, rejuvenates dull skin and treats acne.
Apart from this, it strengthens the collagen, which helps in tightening the skin and fighting the signs of aging.
The collagen is the skin’s cement and is made of fibrous protein, which is present in egg whites. Hence, using egg whites in your face mask is a great idea to improve the texture of your skin.
Things you’ll need:
- Ground oatmeal – ¼ cup
- Egg white – 1 egg
- Orange juice – enough to make a paste
Step 1. Put ground oatmeal & orange juice into the whipped egg white
- Break open an egg and separate the whites from the yolk. Check out our tips on how to separate egg whites from the yolk.
- Whip the egg whites using a whisk or an electric frother.
- Add ¼ cup of ground oatmeal to the whipped egg whites.
- Pour in 2 tablespoons of orange juice. You can replace orange juice with lemon juice.
- Blend all the ingredients well.
Step 2. Apply the paste on your face & let it sit for 15 min
- Apply the paste to your face after washing it with lukewarm water.
- Let the mask sit for 15 minutes.
- Rinse the mask off with warm water, followed by a splash of cold water.
Use this pack once a week. The shelf life of this face mask is 1 week if refrigerated, so you can make it in advance if you wish.
Method 3: Oatmeal & Clay Mask
Some clays have anti-inflammatory properties much like oatmeal and also help remove toxins from the skin, which allows the skin to heal. It basically acts as a magnet to draw out all the dirt and oil from the skin.
Using therapeutic lavender oil is known to relax your nerves and body. The lactic acid in yogurt fights the acne-producing oil and also moisturizes the skin.
Things you’ll need:
- Kaolin clay powder – 1 tablespoon
- Ground oatmeal – 1 tablespoon
- Lavender essential oil – 2 or 3 drops
- Yogurt (milk Kefir cultured buttermilk) – enough to make a paste
Step 1. Combine all the ingredients and mix well
- Put 1 tablespoon of kaolin clay powder in a bowl.
- Add 1 tablespoon of ground oatmeal to it.
- Add enough yogurt to make a smooth paste.
- Add 2 or 3 drops of lavender essential oil to the mixture.
- Mix all the ingredients well.
Step 2. Apply the pack on your face & leave it for 5 to 10 min
- Wash your face with lukewarm water and pat your skin dry.
- Apply the face mask and leave it on for 5 to 10 minutes.
- Rinse off the mask with warm water, followed by a splash of cold water.
Use this pack once a week. If you have extremely oily skin, you can use it twice a week. This mask must be made fresh for each use.
Additional Tips
- Use a ripe banana for face masks, as it is rich in potassium and a great source of nutrients for the dry skin.
- Pull your hair back into a ponytail to avoid getting the mask in your hair.
- Applying a face mask might get a little messy, so wear a neck robe, towel or something similar to avoid the paste dripping onto your clothes.
- Opt for whole milk when using for facial masks, it's more nourishing.
- If your face feels too dry after using a face mask, apply a little bit of olive oil or jojoba oil to moisturize your face.
